I ordered 5 of copies of the this book. We used it in a mother-daughter book club this summer. We visited a bee keeper, tasted many types of raw honey and honey comb. We learned many new things about the health benefits of honey. Some discussions that this book sparked:
Are bees our friends too?
Living things that are transformed in nature
What animals transform food they eat into foods for people
What is the difference between being magically transformed and being transformed through growth?
The illustrations are beautiful. The Disc that comes with shows the artistic process. My children and myself found that very interesting.

The BeeMan of Orn and Other Fanciful Tales Frank Richard Stockton Books Reviews
I read this to my grandson when he was in first and second grade. I brought it out about every 6 months for a couple of years. He loved this story with it's surprise ending. The book I had then became water damaged and had to be thrown out. When my granddaughter was born, I searched and searched for a couple of years for this version of this story with the Sendak art. I finally found it at . (I have both published versions.) But at 3 1/2 now, she does not seem quite ready for it yet. She may be ready in a year or two. I hope. Because it is such a fun story.
Just a precaution Don't assume all Sendak books are all suitable for all children. Actually read them through before you buy. Several come heavy with dark messages. They could give a child nightmares.
Fun read; well done whimsy with a small lesson at the end of each story.
This is a charming and thought-provoking story I wish I had known about long ago. Like all of the best children's material it speaks also on an adult level. Sendak's characteristically whimsical, yet rich and slightly mysterious illustrations complement the story beautifully.
Something random made me remember this story, and so of course I turned to to find it. It was a joy to reread it again, and several others that I had read, but that I did not remember. The author has a wonderful way with words, and there is enough reality in his stories that the fantasy part is believable. The short stories are easily read in 10-20 minutes, so they are well worth it for a brief moment of "me time." Enjoy!
This is a great story. I got the book because I am doing research for a bee book of my own - about colony collapse disorder. This was a fun one that I found out about in another book, one by a woman who is a beekeeper. I'm glad I read it, and that I got to see Maurice Sendak's drawings.
not his best work. Kind of like he was under contract to get "x" amount of words out.
Be forewarned. The paperback version has no illustrations! I was so disappointed. On top of that the the stories were very boring. I think those with hardcovers will be more enthused, but avoid the paperback!
